Actually I disagree with you completely. I’m not saying plastic surgery is wrong, am I? I’m staying a very true statement that may be difficult to hear for some. It’s true that beauty is not one dimensional and it is also true that in South Korea, many internalize their insecurities because of the concentrated focus on appearance. Out of everyone I have ever met, Koreans have been the most judgmental and critical of their own appearances and others around them. Some choose to conform and go under the knife while others don’t. I’ve never gotten anything done, if that’s what your false assumption meant when you said, “You’ve fallen into the beauty trap.” If you don’t understand the message of my article, that’s on you. I know my message was far from being oppressive and judgmental. Focusing so much on eyelids and making someone feel like they must receive double eyelid surgery is oppressive.. not writing about the intense beauty standards in South Korea. I’m giving a voice to those who may not look like the “perfect” woman, who don’t have double eyelids, and who may feel insecure due to their differences.
